Your Assignment Module Number and Heading: CHCCS400C Work within a relevant legal and ethical framework
Your Assignment Type: Standard Question
Currently Working in Childcare? No
Your knowledge: Beginner

Your Question?
Describe ways that you can uphold the rights of a child in your care, in keeping with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
As an educator I have to ensure services are available to all children regardless of their personal values, beliefs, attitudes and culture. This aligns with anti-discriminatory and ethical practices. Educators are guided by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the child. In our work practices we will recognise and respect a child’s rights according to the convention that is all children have the right to an education that lays a foundation for the rest of their lives, maximises their ability, and respects their family, cultural and other identities and languages. The convention also recognises children’s right to play and be active participants in all matters affecting their lives.

Description and Message:

Hi.
I'm only new here- so bear with me! When your educator asks you to write the ways, she may be referring to the ways that your centre does (or would if you aren't employed/on prac) what you have suggested, so for example, a child from a low socio-economic background will get the same level of treatment/education as one from a working class background- you are not discriminating the child who is from the differing background. Similarly, if you have a child with English as an Additional Language (sorry if that term has been updated---I can't keep up with all of them all the time!)- you are going to provide additional support for them so they are able to participate with the other children. Something important to remember is to be inclusive- you need to involve families of children from different cultural backgrounds- parents can be so much help- you could hold a day where the carer talks to the children about their background, you could make a real effort and learn a couple of words of their first language (e.g. hello and goodbye in Chinese). I hope I didn't go off on too many tangents there. Best of luck with your assignment.
