assessment task SS167 Billy

Hi
i am having trouble with these 2 questions regarding Billy, hope someone can help...
1. Suggest some strategies that could be put in place by the centre to reduce the potential for abuse of Billy..
2. Suggest strategies that could be put in place in the daily program to support Billy..

Unfortunately I don't have a copy of the scenario regarding Billy to be able to help you out with your question... would you be able to post up the scenario? Also, please include your understanding of this question so I can help you out further.

Billy (2.9) has been attending your peogram 2 days per week for the last 3 months. Billy lives with his mother Jenny and her partner Lance, the father of 2 year old Mia. the family lives in a rented 2 besroom unit on the 3rd floor of a block of flats. The flats are one of a series of dwellings situated near a busy road. There are no fenced play areas for the children and there is limited access to public transport. Jenny, who has been unwell since the birth of Mia, spends most of her time resting, Mia has not settled into a routine and is difficult to feed. Lance is currently unemployed but does work as a labourer when work is available.
Billy is extremely active child who tends to be impulsive. he has poor language skills and his speech is difficult to understand. When Billy is not able to make himself understood he becomes physically aggressive. He has poor social skills and does not relate well to the other children, who often refer to Billy as being "naughty".
Recently you have noticed that Billy has become sullen. He is easily upset and connot tolerate other children playing near him. Billy is thin and has sallow skin. He often has a runny nose. Yesterday you noticed that Billy had 3 elongated bruises on his upper bac. Two of the bruises were red/purple in colour and the third was yellowish brown. You asked Lance who often picked up Billy about the bruises and he becameannoyed and said that Billy was "always crashing into things". He then grabbed Billy by the arm and dragged him out the door without sayin "goodbye".

Billy is at risk of harm and detailes need to be recorded, and my supervisor notified so she comtact the right authorities, i am thinking along these lines but dont know if i am headed in the right direction...thanks shazza

I'm not sure how i'm supposed to answer this question either. HELP would be appreciated. ( Suggest strategies to be put in place by the centre, and strategies that could be put in place in the daily program to support Billy). Also How the centre could support Jenny in her parenting role?

Hi Magpies,

Have a think about what you could do to support Billy's language development. You could help him to try and speak more clearly by slowing down his speech and provide him with some easy to use words in social interactions that he could use when he becomes frustrated such as "STOP", "I'M PLAYING". "MY TURN" etc. You could also try and incorporate some games into the program that would allow Billy to develop his social skills with other children.

Thinking along these lines what other strategies can you think of?

I'm assuming you meant A B & C not F?

Lets go question by question

a. What are the factors that may be contributing to the possible abuse of Billy?

*Look at his Family situation
*The type of housing he is in
*Billy's nature
*What other information does the scenario give you??

These are NOT the answers just things for you to take into consideration when reading the 1st question.

b. Describe the indicators of possible abuse.

What indicators of abuse can you 'see' when reading the scenario?

c. Should Billy be notified as being at significant risk of harm? Why/why not?
Thinking about child protection and being a mandatory reporter what reason should/shouldn't you report Billy taking into consideration the answer you gave in question b.

Please be aware that 'giving' a student answers from assignments is plagiarism. Most Study Institutions have clauses set in their enrolment process that outlines that this practise is not acceptable.

That's right LindyT. I don't have my assignment back yet so I don't know what a,b & f questions were about, to give an idea of how she could go about answering this.
