The Cultural aspects of building a workplace relationship with Indigenous Australians.
Mutual respect and diversity – describe the key aspects of building workplace relationships and provide an example of when and how this can be demonstrated in an early childhood setting.
Mutual respect and diversity is an important factor in a partnership or relationship mainly in the workforce. Mutual respect allows families and educators to establish common ground as a way of overcoming any limitations they face, By contrast, stereotyping, fear and a lack of understanding contribute to the environments where there is a real possibility of discrimination and bias. Valuing diversity involves recognizing, respecting, utilizing and benefiting from what another culture can offer your own, diversity aspects are religion, sexuality, disability, race/ethnic background and political views. Accepting and valuing differences and diversity is empowering for individuals and organizations. The key aspects of building workplace relationships is to build mutual trust, an open respectful communication, empathy, shared decision making and openness to others views, values and perspectives.
Educators can encourage a positive environment by inviting diversity into the service for example learning environments are welcoming spaces for children and families to reflect and enrich the lives and identities of others participating in the setting and being able to respond to their interests and needs. Learning welcoming spaces cater for different learning capacities and learning styles and are able to invite children and families to contribute ideas, interests and questions. Gathering and analyzing information as evidence about what children know, can do and understand is a part of an on going cycle that includes planning, evaluating children’s learning and documenting how you can achieve this is by communicating about children’s learning and progress to families, children or other professionals also identifying children who may need additional support in order to achieve particular learning outcomes.
Critical issues – discuss at least three critical issues that impact Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and include an example for each.
Religion is one of the critical issues that impact aboriginal and Torres strait islander people, there are so many different religions and belief systems in Australian society that it is very likely an educator will encounter a number of different beliefs in their childcare centers, these can affect the children’s day to day lives it is important to be aware of their beliefs and respect them.
Strategies for maintaining effective workplace relationships – provide four aspects that should be implemented in the workplace to foster effective relationships. By Collaborating and establishing positive relationships, this will enable you to gain trust and respect as you interact with others. Parents of children will be able to feel comfortable in talking to you about any issues and concerns they may have about their children and accepting your professional opinion. Also another important factor to remember is when building relationships with families is that they actively participate in any events or experiences in your centre. There are many strategies and techniques that can be used in a workplace to foster a respectful environment, this also includes having good workplace policies and procedures in place that provide support for everyone’s culture. Four aspects are: Providing a welcoming environment, encouraging diversity by sharing cultural experiences, avoiding making judgments about people based on their looks or culture; your job is to care for and help children, not judge people, their actions or their culture. Also Consulting people when decisions need to be made that affect them to ensure processes are culturally suitable.

I'm kind of stuck as well, but I thought for the critical issues the following ones
- Communication, taking into account the different of methods of communication. It is quite common for Aboriginal to give you a 'yes' answer if being challenged. This is a direct result of the trauma endured during the colonisation of Australia. Agreeing with the white people will keep you out of trouble.
(How to overcome this barrier - avoid any confrontational questions, try to engage in casual conversation and allow your co-worker to think about it)
In the same manner, Aboriginals may not answer a question that has an obvious answer.
Not answering a question immediately does not mean they have not understood, but simply they are thinking about it and willing to hear others opinions before enunciating theirs, especially if an elder is involved.
- Assumption of knowledge - During the Era of Assimilation, also known as the Stolen Generations, lot of Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders have been cut off from their communities and have only little knowledge about their own traditions and culture. It can be very embarrassing for them if you ask questions about their culture and they are unable to answer.
- [/b]Commitment to the workplace[/b] For many Aboriginals, family is number one priority. Aboriginal family is a tight-knit and include the extended family. It would be quite normal for someone to need to take time off to care for a grand-mother or an uncle. You may wish to redefine the term 'immediate family' in your workplace and allow special paid or unpaid leave for specific occasion such as funerals, called 'sorry business'.
I know I will need to condense this a bit more, but what do you think?

Re: 500 word report HLTHIR404D Work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
You just have to find three critical issues so for example Race,Cultural and land
here is what i wrote i hope it can give you an idea! Critical issues – discuss at least three critical issues that impact Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and include an example for each.
Race is one of the critical issues that impact aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, this causes lack of communication and also bias and poor cultural awareness among service staff. Another would be cultural, cultural misunderstanding often occurs In response to language differences, various cultural expectations and interpretations may also cause misunderstandings which can result in workplace tension for example pitch or tone of voice may be misunderstood. Land is also a critical issue for aboriginal people from their perspective cultural issues related to land, tradition and cultural difference can be factors for affecting relationships with non indigenous co workers and clients. For example aboriginal and Torres strait people may have a negative view of these interactions with government and private health, education, welfare and community service agencies because they are a part non indigenous systems. A lack of understanding and acceptance of cultural differences between aboriginal and Torres strait islander people and the non indigenous population may contribute to a one size fits all approach to service delivery.
