CHCCN511A - Assess The Environment For Suitability & Safety

Post by bee123 » Wed Oct 10, 2012 10:41 pm

Hi all, my brain has frozen and i'm blank :( I know its prob the most obvious of questions but iv drawn blank. i'm stuck.

Q: How would you assess the early childhood enviroment for suitability and safety for children?

So....the ''early childhood enviroment'' would be at my centre? Yes? Both indoor/out door? Just how i would assess it, the good the bad, to suit age group ect. Ughhhh!!!!!!!

thanks in advance :0)

bee123, you are probably just overthinking this question. (Something I am often guilty of myself) Break it down into smaller areas if you like.
Yes - it would be the centre, and yes it would be inside and out - so breaking it down; how is the outside suitable?
Is it completely fenced in. Is there soft-fall areas - are there shaded areas. Are there any hazards you can identify that need rectifying?
then look indoors. Are the rooms well ventilated, is the kitchen separate? Are there any steps? Are the toilets and wet areas safe (slippery floors/no safety steps for kids to reach sinks etc...)
Look at power points, electrical leads, safety glass on windows etc.
Hope this helps
