Post by loz_166 » Thu Aug 30, 2012 9:13 pm

I have an idea on these scenarios but just not sure if i am on the right track pls let me know if anyone can help thanks :)

Sharing information with families Case Scenario 2 – Slap!
Rod, a young father arrives to pick up his son Jake 4.6yrs. Jake’s mother died 9 months ago and Jake and his father are still grieving. Rod goes into the office to pay Jake’s fees. Jake follows him in, climbs onto a chair and starts to swing around.
‘Jake don’t do that. Get down, please.’ Jake ignores his father. ‘Jake, I said to get down.’
Jake continues to ignore his father and as he is spinning around he knocks over the waste paper basket.
Rod immediately pulls Jake off the chair and slaps him hard on the bottom. ‘I told you to get down. Now go out there and wait for me!’
Jake starts to cry and scream just as the carer walks into the office.
1. How would you respond to demonstrate respect and empathy for Rod?

Scenario 1- Emma (4 years)
Emma is asthmatic and has allergies to many foods. She has spent a lot of time in hospital and her parents are concerned that she does not mix well with other children. They have enrolled her in the local preschool two days per week. Emma tells her parents that she doesn’t want to go to preschool and clings to her mother during the enrolment interview.
Emma’s mother expresses concern about the staff’s ability to identify and respond quickly to an asthma attack. You can see that Emma’s mother is looking very stressed.
I. List 2 key concerns of Emma's Parents?

II. List 3 questions you could ask to clarify concerns and reach an agreement/understanding of the parent's needs?

Hi Loz

Can you tell me what you have written so far so we can see if you are on the right track?
Also could you please give me the Module number so I can add it to the title of this topic?

Thanks
Lindy

Hi Lindy,
Thanks for your reply. This is what i have written down for these two scenarios
scenario 2 - slap
1. How would you respond to demonstrate respect and empathy for Rod?
Sit down and see how Rod and his son are managing after his wife's death and show that you care. In a nice way advise Rod that their are other ways to control Jake such as with holding priviliges eg- a trip to the park, a special toy taken away or no treat.

Scenario 1 - Emma
I. List 2 key concerns of Emma's Parents?
Asthma attack
Emma not mixing well with other children

II. List 3 questions you could ask to clarify concerns and reach an agreement/understanding of the parent's needs?
1. How will the cook be reminded of Emma's requirements so that she isnt given the food that the other children with no allergies eat
2. Is the carer trained to notice an onset of an asthma attack
3. How can the carer help Emma interact with other children

CHC30712 cert 3 - assessment scenarios

Post by loz_166 » Mon Sep 03, 2012 7:15 am

Sorry have just added my module number above. I am also stuck on another scenario on 2 of the questions on it if someone can tell me im either on the right or wrong track that would be great. Thanks :)

Case Scenario - Angry father
Toni works as the clerical assistant in a large inner-city long day care service. Her office is at the front of the building. One afternoon she sees Mr. A approaching the front door.
Toni is aware that there is an apprehended violence order against Mr. A who has allegedly been physically abusing his wife.
Mr. A is no longer living in the family home. However, he and his wife still have joint custody of their twins. Mrs. A has asked the center to contact her immediately if her husband arrives to collect the twins.
When Mr. A buzzes and requests entry, Toni tells him she will need to get the director.
Mr. A becomes very abusive and begins to bang on the front door and windows. He yells, 'I'm still the kids' b... father and that b... doesn't have custody yet'.

I. Mr A is clearly angry, should he be given access to the twins? Please give a reason for your answer.
Mr A should be given access to the twins once calmed down as he still has joint custody with Mrs A.

II. There is no custody order restricting access - should the Director telephone Mrs A? Give a rationale to support your answer.
A courtesy call can be made to Mrs A - NOT SURE WHAT ELSE TO WRITE TO GIVE A RATIONALE
