CHCFC506A - Help Child Understand Information

Post by rahera04 » Thu Jul 17, 2014 4:31 am

Your Assignment Module Number and Heading: CHCFC506A - Foster children's language and communication development
Your Assignment Type: Standard Question
Currently Working in Childcare? Yes
Your knowledge: Beginner

Your Question?
For this task you are required to look at the picture and state how you would respond to the child - what level of information would you provide and how would you help the child understand the information.

1. 3yr old: Why does the hermit crab live under a shelf?

2. 4yr old: Where's the spider's eyes and mouth?

3. 3yr old: Do snakes have ears?

4. A toddler is startled by a moth that is at the window: What's that?

What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
For number 3 i have, i would explain to the child that snakes do have ears, and that you can't see them like our ears, but that they can hear like us especially when people are walking around.

The others i am looking at trying to find a simple way of explaining to them about there questions, i have looked in my work books and online and can't seem to find an example of an appropriate anwser. Can you please help?

Description and Message:
I guess the main thing really is to recognise that there still babies i just would like to know of example of appropriate ways to help them understand. Thank you

So for a 3 year old, you can keep it simple.

For a 4 year old you can provide a little more information which they will understand.

For a toddler just use basic language.

1) The hermit crab carries a snail shell on its back for protection. (you may need to use another word instead of protection such as "so other sea creatures can't hurt it")...

2) The front segment is called the Cephalothorax. The spider’s eyes, mouth fangs, stomach, brain and the glands that make the poison are on this part of the body. (you can show a picture to help explain it, you would use proper words as well)...

3) Snakes do not have ears outside the head as we do, nor do they have ear openings or eardrums. We have parts of our hearing apparatus, called the inner ear, inside the head, and snakes have these parts also. (you could simplify it but using a picture of a snake and showing your ear during explanation)

4) An insect that looks like a butterfly...

Hope this gives you some ideas,
