Strategies For Language Barriers

Post by elizabeth1111 » Thu Sep 01, 2016 7:28 pm

Hi,

Sorry, I know this is a childcare website, but I was wondering if anyone could help me.

Question 1 List 3 strategies you as a TA could implement if difficulties arise due to a language barrier...

I have visuals and an interpreter and I am stuck on a third one....I know the answer is very obvious, but I can't see it.

Thank you

Maybe something like:

Speak slowly and clearly.
Use short and simple sentences.
Maintain normal volume.
Use different words to express the same idea.
Prioritise and sequence your instructions.
Avoid jargon.
Respond to expressed emotions.
Be aware that residents from some cultural backgrounds may avoid disagreement at the expense of being honest.
Allow time for questions and clarification.
Use communication aids when necessary

Hope this helps!
