Change in Diploma units

Post by JodieC » Thu May 05, 2016 5:35 pm

Hi Everyone,

I am currently studying my diploma through Mets and I also work casually at one centre. I was at that centre today and was told by another educator studying her diploma that some of the units are changing after June. This is the first I've heard of it. Does anyone know anything about this?

Thanks in advance?

Jodie

Hi Jodie,

No I haven't heard of the Diploma changing either. Previously it had been Diploma of Children's Services which has been changed to Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.

I'll keep my ears and eyes open,

Yes we have just been notified I am currently studying my diploma through HBA Learning centre and have been told if we can finish our diploma before the 1st July then we do not need to do the new units however if we can't regardless if we have already completed the specific units we need to re do them. The units that are being changed are as follows I am not sure if it is the same but these are the topic headings of the units

CHCCS400C - Work within a Relevant Legal and Ethical Framework (theory & prac)
HLTHIR404D - Work Effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander People (theory & prac)
CHCORG428A - Reflect on and Improve Own Professional Practice (theory & prac)
CHCORG506E - Coordinate the Work Environment (theory & prac)

I hope this information helps. You may need to contact who you are doing your course through

Thanks for the information!

I just checked the units you mentioned:

CHCCS400C - Work within a Relevant Legal and Ethical Framework (theory & prac)
HLTHIR404D - Work Effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander People (theory & prac)
CHCORG428A - Reflect on and Improve Own Professional Practice (theory & prac)
CHCORG506E - Coordinate the Work Environment (theory & prac)

These units are in the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, so does this means that you are currently doing the Diploma Of Children's Services?

Just need to clarify...

Hi Lorina, I had no idea until I logged onto our training forum and noticed a message from the assessors explaining which units have been changed and all the information to download these units as my course is online. I then took it upon myself to email the company as I was a little confused as I am already half way through my course and thought it was unfair they do this now when I have already completed more than half of the theory. The email I got back from the company was:
The Skills Services Council (previously known as the Industry Skills council- ISC) have superseded the 4 units in the diploma. I understand this is frustrating for you as a learner, but this is something that we as an organisation must abide by. Over the years, we have seen up to 4 releases of the CHC qualification and each time, we go through the same process.

I hope this helps.
Thank you
Kylie

Hi I am studying my Dip. in E.C.E.C. through Conwal & Associates known as OnlineCoursesAustralia and we are the same new bits being added into the 4 units ... I find it annoying as none of this was mentioned at the start but now dumped on me have been working my butt off to have my last 4 assignments finished by the 6th of August we got given, but when I signed in 2 days ago those 4 units being added to have been locked by Susan for the new pieces to be added which means we cant finish before the 6th ... certainly rouge if you ask me! Not real happy about it

Yeah it's a joke! I don't think they should do it for continuing students. I understand that you may need to learn the new pieces of information but there should be another way around it rather than having to redo units...
