Exploring Natural Play Materials

Post by nemodori » Sat Mar 12, 2016 8:09 pm

This task requires you to create a collection of natural play materials that children 3-5years can explore.
For example: Rocks, Shells, Leaves, Seedpots, Barks, Driftwood Etc.

• create a display of the materials for children's to explore (submit a photo of your display)

• as children interact with the materials, record ho children use the material as well as their reaction, comments and questions.

• introduce white play dough or clay to the materials and encourage children to experiment - making impressions, creating a diorama (this one I didn't understand)

• further document Childrens conversations, ideas and actions as they explore the natural materials in combination with the clay or dough.

• evaluate the experience and identify and EYLF learning outcome.

•suggest how you could extend, develop or build on this experience with the children.

• submit your documentation for comment and sign off by your workplace supervisor.

This is the task.

I am planning to choose rocks as materials.
But when they say I have to introduce white play dough or clay to the materials (rocks I choose) to the experiment. i will choose play dough. So does this mean I will have to give play dough to the children's so they can play or experience play dough and rocks together? But what does it mean where it said 'making impressions, creating a diorama'?

That is the only think I am stuck on.
Please help me out. I am nearly done with my placement work.. Please help.

I think you have to use few different materials not only rocks and give it to the children to explore. Record all you hear from the children and then add playdough and record what they do and say (that's how I understand this).
