CHCPRT001 Identify and Respond to Children

Post by palmore » Thu Jul 09, 2015 5:02 pm

Hi,
Kindly help to answer this.

Q)Use the below scenario answer the following question: In reflection of the below scenario, what type of questioning should an educator use?
Scenario:‘Tommy’ arrived to child care with his Mother and had swelling and a bruising to the left eye. When the Educator asked Tommy’s mother what had happened she looked away and mumbled: ‘he fell and bumped his head’ Tommy’s mum then quickly left without saying goodbye to Tommy or the Educator.Throughout the day Tommy seemed withdrawn and had several toileting accidents, which is extremely rare for him. He was extremely distressed when the Educator was changing him saying how ‘Daddy’s going to be very angry with me’.

My Ans:In the above scenario child is disclosing directly as you can see swelling and a bruising to the left eye and also as his mum told about what happened, secondly he is also indirectly disclosing by saying 'Daddy's going to be very angry with me so in this situation educator should use non-leading questions. As an educator I will ask Tommy If I can have look at his eye and apply medication if necessary, make him comfortable and relax. Talk to him privately, reassure him that it is okay to tell what happened if he wants to share with me. I would ask how you are feeling ? Is it paining ? How did you fell down?

I have got the remark (It is asking what kind of questioning would you use?)

Thank you,
Pal
