CHCECE001 - Cultural Competence Induction Kit For New Employees

Post by kk89 » Mon Mar 23, 2015 10:40 pm

Hi I'm currently need to complete an induction kid for new educators and staff to help them understand cultural competence.
In my kit I need to Outline:
- relevant legislation and Government requirements that relate to cultural competence, specifically for educators in early childhood settings
- how to deal with racism and stereotypes
- a culturally safe environment and what it means
- the resources (at least 8) available to support educators incorporate cultural competence into practice and policy, for example interpreters, advisory bodies or others that can support individual children with specific cultural needs.

If someone could give me some advice, I especially struggling on finding relevant and Government requirements that relate to cultural competence.

Kind regards :)

Thankyou Lorina would you have any tips on putting together an induction kit for new educators and staff in an education and care setting that will them understand cultural competence as described in the EYLF.
e.g ideas of how i could set it out. I aim for it to 1-6 pages with supported scanned policy examples.
E.g There a could be a pocilies section
brief summary
weblinks and information

It may need to be longer than 6 pages if you are providing more information. When setting it out just make sure that you answer are the above points within your induction kit. First you can have an introduction and talk about cultural competence, what it means in early childhood settings and then give some practical examples. From here, you can add information on Government requirements and legislations. Next section could be something like "Culture In The Workplace" and you can give scenarios and strategies on dealing with racism, stereotypes, communicating with different cultures and culturally safe environment etc. Then lastly you can have "Resources" for all resources you need to add etc.

Here is an example of an Induction Kit to give you an idea:

Cultural Competence Kit

Hope this helps.

Thankyou Lorina

Im going well with the kit now, mainly just have to get around the presentation side of the kit and setting it up in a order that it all makes sense when my information is used.

Cheers Sue
