kindergarten teacher salary for band 1

Hi ,
I am an overseas trained primary teacher undergoing The Bridging diploma from tafe, I have a degree in science and another bachelors degree in education, both recognised by dete qld. And teachers registration in Queensland.
Can you tell me the salary I should be getting as a permanent part time kindergarten teacher on 1 year contract.

I have just started at a centre and want to be sure I am being paid right.
Also I had joined united voice while working as a group leader, should I be in the teachers union.
Or no union at all

Your pay rate falls under the Educational Services Teachers Award 2010. Within it gives a minimum yearly income rather than an hourly wage.

So, for full time employees at Level 1 the minimum yearly salary is $39,640/. As a part time you will be paid the same as a full time wage depending on the hours you do.... So from the yearly amount given I worked out the hourly minimum wage to be around $20.64/. I did this based on 42 working weeks and 8 hours per day (for full time). It mentions that Teachers need to work at least 42 weeks because of school holidays etc. You can check this once you work out how many weeks you will be working within the year and your hours and then you can calculate it accordingly. I'm sorry if once you calculate it, my hourly wage seems way off I just did it based on what it says in the Award and it so confusing when they don't give you an hourly wage rather than a salary!

I was hoping it would be more as$20 is what I used to get as group leader

Hi there,

I am from New Zealand and my Bachelor of Education in Teaching was recognised in 2012 so I didn't need to under go a bridging course, however, I think that now I would have to do this. I am registered in Queensland and have kindergarten teacher recognition and I taught the Queensland approved Kindergarten Program in my centre - I was on $30 per hour but I do know that this was only because they recruited me from New Zealand because of my qualification as there weren't as many Bachelor qualified teachers then. I think that the hourly rate would be a lot lower than that as I know that my salary was more than the Directors who was Diploma qualified. I think that you would be looking at around $20 - $25 per hour but it may depend on where you work. Not sure if this is helpful to you or not.
