Post by SierrasMumma » Fri Aug 29, 2014 7:44 pm

Your Assignment Module Number and Heading: HLTHIR404D
Your Assignment Type: Standard Question
Currently Working in Childcare? Yes
Your knowledge: Basic Knowledge

Your Question?
This whole book doesn't add up! reading the question, is this the wrong module? I haven't even attempted this one at all I don't even know whee to start. You have been asked to present a training session to a group of community service support workers who are about to be assigned to Indigenus clients requiring varying levels of support. Some clients require palliative care, while others need assistance with home care, hygiene and meal preparation

What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
As stated previously I have not attempted this oe, I cant wrap my head around it

Description and Message:
Has anyone done this one before? It feels like it belongs in aged care?

OK so its the right one I just have to word the question differently to just working with Indigenous people, weather it be a co-worker or a child. I just finished my blurb on working in a culturally safe manner. I am now looking at resources and legislation and such that may effect working. Would I be right in suggesting with resources, as I read in the book some of the elders use, dance song and pictures more than verbal language, Those items would then become a resource for communication?

Glad to hear you got that sorted! Yeah, you could use those resources for communication... I'm also adding a link to a topic of some more information on working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders...May help you out with your response...

Thankyou so much you have been a huge help :) Im researching Laws, Acts Legislationns and the such that could effect ones work with the ATSI community. I have found major ones
(The racial Hatred act; which amends the Racial discrimination act.
Anit-Discrimatnation act
The Fair work Act
The Age Discrimination Act
The Sex Discrimination Act
The Disability Discrimination Act
The Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012
State-based anti-discrimination and OH&S laws
The Australian Human Rights Commission Act) I am having trouble finding anything directly linked to the mentioned culture though, is there anything?

I just found one for you:

Australian Heritage Law - The heritage laws seek to protect, preserve, present, and transmit the Australian nation's natural, cultural, and historical heritage.

Here's another which may be more relevant:

Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003 - A key feature of the Act is its creation of a new legal responsibility or statutory 'duty of care' requiring all people across the State (QLD) to respect, value and protect the State's Aboriginal cultural heritage.
