Cubby House Activities
Cubby House Activities
We are a small Early Learning Centre attached to a kinder, we are a mixed age room. We are dry for ideas for the cubby house at the moment, it's enclosed & can fit about 3 or 4 children comfortably with some furniture (table & chairs).
We find what ever we put in there the children seem to drag it out & play with it elsewhere anyway but we can't leave it blank all the time.
We've tried the oldies - kitchen, bed, dolls, prams, shop, cars & road mat, sensory tub with animals, musical instruments etc.
Ideas welcome

Re: Cubby House Ideas
How about setting the cubby house up as a restaurant. I set our cubby up a an Asian restaurant once. The children made red paper lanterns and hung them inside and outside of the cubby. I set the table with red material, cane placemats, small chinese bowls, chopsticks and I laminated menus from a local Chinese restaurant.
You get the idea! The children loved it and role played being the customer, waiter, cook etc.
You could also set it up as an Italian restaurant using empty pizza boxes.
I have also set the cubby as a doctors office and a hairdressers.
Just think about the home corner inside and extend it to outside.
Hope this gives you a few ideas.
Jules.

What about a reading cubby.... Add a nice rug, cushions, bean bags, basket of books, add posters inside, soft toys, etc.

Hello Benty,
Cubbyhouses are great for imaginative play, creative thinking and problem-solving. Children can make cubbyhouses using things around your home. Encourage children to set up a cubbyhouse in whatever way they want.
Games to Play in a Cubby House are:
Host a play. Kids love putting on plays and it gets their creative juices flowing.
Put on a Puppet Show.
Hide and seek.
Cubby Treasure Hunt.
Plant a garden.
Animal hospital.
Castle.
Camping in the cubby house.

Hope this will work

Re: Cubby House Activities
How about turning the cubby into a fun themed space that changes every few weeks? You could try a camping setup with a little tent and fake campfire, a vet clinic with toy animals and bandages, or even a post office with envelopes and a mailbox! If the kids like dragging stuff out, maybe keep it light and let them carry the theme into the rest of the roomâit could make the play even more exciting!
