Development in the different areas (emotional, language, social etc) overlap and interact with each other. Development does not occur in one area at a time, for example a child's development of language (increased vocabulary, confidence, understanding etc) will directly affect the child's development in other areas (emotional, social etc). This can be used to design learning environments and experiences that foster development across a variety of domains.
