Hi everyone,
Long story short I was working in a LDC but left to dedicate all my time to my Diploma when a job literally 10 meters from my house at my old primary school came up. The school is starting a new OSCH programme. It is a very small school so they are just starting with afternoons. I went for an interview and got the job. I have sole charge of 8 kids. I am very excited to plan and implement my own programme. I have never worked formally with school aged children before and just wanted to ask if anyone has some tips before I start?
Thanks Macoola

Hi Macoola,
First off "Congratulations"! on your new job! You're very lucky to have a job so close to home!!
It's nice working with the older children because you can do some much with them... Some ideas are: ask them about their interests, what they want to do in while in after school care, get them to help make afternoon tea, discuss what they want to do during the week and plan accordingly, plan the weekly afternoon menu together, give them the opportunity to re-do the after school care room with you, plan the room into different areas and offer a variety of choices...
Since you only have 8 children the curriculum plan can be kept simple. You can also start doing OBS as part of your documentation and get the children to do their own learning stories of experiences they participate in..
Hope all goes well and let me know how it goes!

Get the children to relax after a hard day at school. You can get them to do play dough, sand play, and painting, put calming music on and maybe even yoga.
