First aid course

Post by Cochi » Tue Apr 21, 2015 7:43 pm

Hi,

I would like to know which first aid course I should do. I checked online there are senior first aid and first aid in child care setting, which one do you think I should do? I am currently working casually in a long day care.

Thanks :)

Hi Cochi,
My FDC scheme always holds a senior first aid course and because the person doing the course knows we are in childcare he incorporates the childcare setting side of it into the course in more detail. Don't forget your Asthma and Anaphylaxis, some incorporate into the senior first aid, with it stated on your certificate, others hold it as separate components with their own certificates.

Hi Cochi,
Doing a Senior First Aid course is great. However, if you are planning to do any further study in the Child Care Industry always check out what TAFE or your future provider require. I was caught out by this situation. My Senior Certificate number did not match the same as TAFE's, even though it was only completed 5 months before I started my course. They told me that it was not valid and that I needed to do it again through either my provider or their own. TAFE are really strict about matching First Aid Certificate numbers.
Hope this helps,
