do you pay for your own resources?

Post by tinkataylor » Wed Feb 12, 2014 8:59 am

Hi guys,

Our centre is privately owned and a couple of years ago if you wanted something other than what was in the art cupboard, you bought it yourself.
Now however we have thankfulky changed owners and this one is more open to reimbursement than the last.
As a newly married, I am tight on money and I dont feel comfortable with buying things myself, especially if im not sure when they will reimburse me.
Also I never know what could be appropriate for me to buy for my room. Say if I bought some decorations my owner might refuse to reimburse.

Any advice? Do you have to pay for your own resources or does your centre buy it all?

Thanks :)

Centres should pay for resources for rooms
Yes most of us will buy a few things but then those resources are mine and they go with me when I go.
If you do need something small here and there maybe get approval first. Once you provide receipts you should be reimbursed immediately or with your next pay, depending on how the employer pays you.
I worked for a place that would pay be cash back as well or give me the cash to buy and I gave them receipts (under $50)

Yeah I get where your coming from... At times in the past I have also been hesitant in purchasing resources for the centre as I doubt I'd be paid back. At previous centres I would always confirm and get approval before purchasing an item I would want reimbursed. If I saw an item in the catalogue I would show the director and tell them why I'd need it etc. They when it's approved then I'd purchase it. Since it's being reimbursed the item belongs to the centre. However if you are purchasing items for your room without reimbursing then they are yours alone. Does your owner do a weekly shopping list for the centre? Maybe you can include the items you need on the list? For decorations, get the kids to make some if you rather save your money instead...
