Car Seats

Post by YEP » Mon Aug 13, 2018 3:23 pm

Hi everyone,

We have 2 families that are friends that come to our centre. The mother of one of the families has given permission for her child to be taken home with the other child's family. Our concern is that one day when an educator helped them out to the car, she didn't think she saw a car seat for the older child. How do i approach this with both families? Both children are under 5 and should be in car seats. Do i have a right to bring this up? Is it ok to ask if she has car seats for both children? If the educator hadn't gone to the car we would never know.

Thank

YEP

Yes, it's your duty of care to ask the family about the car seats...

You can politely just have a chat to ensure that the family has car seats for both children. Not only are you keeping the children safe but also you are following the road and safety laws.

If you don't want to bring it up as such, next time the family comes to collect both children, you can just go and help take the children to the car and check for yourself, then if you notice only one car seat you can let the parent know...
