Sensory Experience for toddlers

Post by Steffelz » Tue May 22, 2012 10:13 pm

I thought Id post a sensory experience that I will be doing with the 15month-2year age group this week.
It looks so much fun!

Its called Colourful Sensory Bags.
Its pretty much a bunch of squishy colours in zip lock bags, but Ill explain as I go along

What you need:

- 1x Ziploc bag per colour
- Hair gel
- Food colouring (each colour that you want to use)
- Sealing tape
- Trinkets (optional)

How to make the Baggies:

- Remove the labels from the zip lock bags with some nail polish remover
- Fill each Ziploc baggie with about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of hair gel

- Add some food color to get the bright colors
- Use clear packing tape to seal the top of the baggies
- Blend the gel and color after the baggies are sealed
- Trinkets, glitter, jelly beads etc. can be added to the baggies for extra sensory experience

Let the kids have a feel and talk to them about how it feels and listen to what they have to say.
Ill let you all know how it goes with my Kiddies
Cant wait!!! (Im such a big kid)

Great experience!

I actually tried this experience with my group of toddlers some times ago. It was when we were exploring sea animals. I added blue food colouring to the gel and added small sea creatures.

A very popular experience! Even the preschoolers wanted a turn...lol...

Some other sensory experiences I have tried:

- jelly

- cooked noodles

- shaving cream

Let's just say I dont mind cleaning up a big mess if my group enjoy it....hahaha

Steffelz we are all big kids thats why we work in EC.

I do a colour blending activity very similar to your Colourful Sensory Bags.

Thanks for sharing

Shaved soap + damp tissue paper
