Group Time Activities

Post by Jeffnae » Sun Feb 16, 2014 9:36 pm

Hi Everyone

I am after some help.

I am looking at what other ways Educators provide group time for the children.
I am trying to keep my educators engaged during group time which I need new ideas.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Group time is not just about reading a story and singing a few songs, it's a great way to get children excited about learning and gives educators a chance for intentional teaching moments. Ideas include:

- science experiments
- yoga
- question of the day (added to a book, with each child response and displayed for parents)
- group games
- weather chart
- concept recognition etc.

Also, music time just doesn't have to be inside at the same spot each day. Take it outside in a nice shady spot or even join group time with another room if possible... It's also a good idea to let all staff have an opportunity to run group time over the course of the week as many educators have their own methods and techniques they use...

Use place mats for spots for child to sit.

Weekly I do "wonder questions: if I was a superhero I will be, because" each child draws & talks about response in group. Hang on wonder wall.

Take laptop & watch YouTube on topic of interest. Discuss at group time.

Parachute games, ball games, dancing.
