Case Study 3
Donna is the nominated PCBU (as required by WHS legislation) at Gumtree Childcare Centre. Therefore, it is Donna’s responsibility to protect the overall health and safety of staff, children, families and visitors to the service.
After reviewing the service’s incident records, Donna notices that there have been a number of foot injuries to children and staff at the service in the past three months.
Donna wants to develop a policy for clothing and footwear and to raise the awareness of this issue with all at the service. As a starting point, she refers to the following:

Answer the following questions.
1. Summarise Donna’s key responsibilities as the PCBU of the service.
Donna is the nominated PCBU (as required by WHS legislation) at Gumtree Childcare Centre. Therefore, Donna’s responsibilities are:
a) To protect the overall health and safety of staff,
b) Children, families and visitors to the service.
c) Undertaking risk assessments Under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011, a PCBU is also required to notify the WHS regulator in their state or territory of ‘notifiable incidents’, which include: the death of a person, serious injury or illness of a person a dangerous incident.
d) Learning from previous incidents.
e) Checking what regulators and inspectors have said.
f) Knowing what the regulations and codes of practice require.
g) Consulting with workers.
h) Consulting and co coordinating with other PCBUs involved with work at centre.
i) Checking OHS publications and websites..

3. Describe the steps that Donna should now take to address foot injury hazards at the service and to minimise risks.
madam i am on right track.

a) Provide information for educators about suitable footwear expectations for the education and care work environment.
b) Ensure educators are aware of the service and WHS polices regarding hazards and their solutions.
c) Provide information for families about suitable footwear through.
d) Newsletters, brochures, websites and posters.

4. What specific strategies could Donna suggest for implementation to control risks that follow the footwear and clothing policy and procedures?
what i need to write in question4 :? please .........help me thanks

As she reviews the incident records she is gaining an understanding of the most common injuries that are occurring therefore protecting the overall health and safety of children and staff within the centre.
