hi i have been asked to provide a 250 word answer to this question.
1. WHY DO CHILDREN OFTEN BEHAVE INNAPROPRIATELY IN ORDER TO HAVE THEIR EMOTIONAL NEEDS MET?


What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
i understand that children behave inappropriately to get attention. so if they are not getting any attention misbehaving will get them both social and emotional attention.

Description and Message:
the problem i am having is that i have to reference theorists in my answer.
but what are there actual emotional needs and which theorist does this relate to? please help

THIS IS MY ANSWER SO FAR BUT IM STILL 40 WORDS SHORT.....

Children often misbehave as a form of communication when they are unable to communicate their needs. A child’s emotional needs are to feel loved, powerful, and valuable and to belong in their surroundings. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs shows that self-esteem, as well as love, affection and belonging are more important in a child’s development than physical aspects of development. When a child feels that their emotional needs are not being met the child will respond with misbehaviour. The act of misbehaviour will then get the attention of the desired person. A child’s way of thinking is that any attention is better than no attention; they do not understand the consequences of their actions. Therefore the child will continue to behave inappropriately as long as it continues to meet the child’s emotional needs. Psychologist Erik Erikson believed a child’s general attitude towards people develops from their early attachments. Because an attachment is an emotional connection it will also guide the child’s behaviour. For example if you positively emotionally interact with a child they will experience trust and comfort as well as belonging. If you neglect a child’s emotional needs or interact negatively (ignoring, put downs etc.) the child will have mistrust around you and will misbehave accordingly to get emotional recognition.
