5. There are many historical factors that have had a contemporary impact on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. Research two (2) of these factors and detail your findings in several paragraphs for each. Remember to use your own words and acknowledge any sources of information.

Scenario

The children at your service have been excited about the upcoming Australia Day celebrations. Each family is celebrating in their own way.

You are planning to implement a range of activities to explore what it means to be part of Australian culture. You decide one of these activities will include the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, and you will ask them to provide you with additional appropriate and accurate information about their views on the day. You know that there are customs you need to be aware of when meeting and speaking with the community members.

You will also provide a group project about culture and background within Australia. This will start with a discussion about what children are planning to do with their families on Australia Day. You will then introduce additional experiences based on each child’s culture and heritage.

My answers are below which did not satisfy the trainer please help me

ANSWER 1
In the given scenario many experiences and opportunities are available in the learning environment . Children can be assisted to develop an understanding of themselves and other participants. Here are some steps to  foster positive attitudes to inclusion during the given experience.

Embedding respectful and inclusive practices in the program to ensure that their rights and needs are being addressed.
Connect children to their world and develop a respect for diversity.
The experience  to  include an environment of good relationship with families and children.
Use of activities to ensure that they are relevant and appropriate to families.
Openness  to parents ideas and  their participation is ensured and represented.
Create an inclusive view by adding one item to the corner of the workplace, like crutches, sling, chopsticks, a wheelchair, a walking stick, sari, bamboo steamer or flag.
Use of natural items in the environment like, stones, bark pieces and leaves and talk about them
Ask the children which things they like most and which they do not, discuss similarities and differences like foods, events,celebrations and plays.
Exploring transition activities to find out similarities and closeness.
Use of mirror for the encouragement of the children to look at themselves and others.

ANSWER 2.
Open and Inclusive communication means sharing information in a way that everybody can understand. When we use language that is inclusive means unbiased language without any discrimination of race, gender, age, economic status, sexual orientation, religion politics or any other personal detail or characteristic. According to the given scenario for using inclusive communication we have to: 

 Make sure that the language is unbiased and politically correct  without giving an indication that a person feels less valued
The words to be used should relate to the topic being discuss
Be aware of not making generalisations
Only include information that is relevant
Only refer to a person's gender or physical characteristics when it is relevant to the discussion.

ANSWER 3
There  are many ways to provide and encourage sense of identity and of being connected to the world of children. There are some actions to show and listening where in children are interested to promote each individual's sense of identity. Actions are given as follows:

Using child's name during ceremony 
Displaying children's individual work related to their culture 
Using cultural items relevant to  children's families and community
Playing and having fun with the children during ceremony 
Providing books, posters and puzzles that depict a variety of different people, cultures and home life styles item related to Australia Day
Adding different cultural items to pretend play areas
Incorporating excursions and incursions into the curriculum 

ANSWER 4

When we notice that children's reactions or participation suggests an additional cultural support or further understanding of cross cultural concepts we can use following two techniques

1. Challenging Stereotypes
To avoid the development of fears and concerns about differences, it is necessary to remove the stereotyping and biased view by following such as:
encourage children to ask questions about differences they notice.
Help children feel comfortable about asking questions.
Answer question honestly and match the level of understanding of the child.
Guide children to ask question in a positive way
Let the children know that biased words are inappropriate

2. Identifying and addressing prejudice
some educator believe that if the comments or action of the children are challenged they may create a conflict. By being open, honest and succinct in your responses you can successfully manage these situations and develop confidence in parroting the value of diversity i.e
Ground rules:- For words and actions to be used
Allow mistakes:- So that the children may learn from them
Address non-inclusive actions:- And identify topics to explain situation.
Share real experiences:- and Feel included
Encourage empowerment :- And make them feel comfortable

ANSWER 5
To understand the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, we need to be aware of historical issues and how these may currently be reflected. There is great impact of historical factors on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. When Europeans came, they saw no evidence of recognisable agriculture or civilisation, so they considered Indigenous Australian people to be savages. Consequently Indigenous Australian people were deprived of their land and restricted in their ability to engage in their cultural practises and speak their languages. There are  devastating historical  effect on Indigenous Australian communities of   is as follows

Loss of land and culture

Once the European way of life was imposed, many Indigenous Australian people were denied the right to practise their own culture, including their spiritual obligations to the Dreaming. They could no longer wander to search for food, nor could they practise their rites and ceremonies in sacred sites. The loss of their land and freedom to practise their culture meant the loss of many Indigenous Australian people’s identity.

Labour exploitation

From the early colonial period onwards, Indigenous Australian people became a cheap source of labour for Europeans who saw them as inferior beings to be exploited. Indigenous Australian men worked on stations and farms as stockmen and on roads and railways as labourers, while women worked as domestic helpers. Pay, if it existed, was often food or alcohol or, at best, very low wages. 

Stolen generations

Removal from their families has far-reaching consequences for children of the Stolen Generations. All aspects of their lives are affected. They had low self esteem and feelings of worthlessness. Some enter a lifelong search for their parents, others never succeed as parents themselves and turn to substance abuse. Many feel that they are living a life surrounded by ghosts – people they don’t know but should.  They were brought up to be servants or labourers, members of the Stolen Generations often received a poorer education and are more likely to be unemployed.
