Hi everyone,
I've just been employed this week to begin my traineeship working toward my certificate 3 (part-time). I am 27 years of age. I've just been sent my contract and it says that I will be paid $18.12/hour exclusive of superannuation. This seems low to me. I went for many interviews last week and one of the managers at a different centre said that I should be paid $21.59 according to the award rate. Is that correct? Under the 'industrial instrument' it says 'Children's Services Award 2010'. I don't believe that this is the correct award to be determining pay, right? I'd really appreciate any advice because I need to come to a decision by Friday afternoon. It's very confusing trying to find the right information regarding pay but I know it should be over $20....
TRAINEESHIP HOURLY RATE- CERTIFICATE 3
Re: TRAINEESHIP HOURLY RATE- CERTIFICATE 3
Hi,
As per your traineeship pay rate, it is from the National Training Miscellaneous Award 2020.
Once you have completed your cert 3 qualification, then you move onto the Children's Services Award 2010.
As per your pay rate, since you are 27 years old and have been out of school for more than 5 years, your hourly pay rate is $23.22 per hour.
This for your reference: National Training Wage
You can find your pay rate under "E.4.2 Minimum hourly rates for part-time traineeships (a) Wage level A" in the above Award.
Once again this is if you are completing a traineeship at a centre.
I'm not sure why you are getting completely different pay rates. In regards to the $18.12/ I have no idea where this rate is coming from. If they are giving you a pay rate from the Children's Services Award, you will be getting around $20/ per hour even if you're unqualified.
The pay rate of $21.59 is correct if you are working at a service and not completing a traineeship. So, this is the pay rate to expect if you are working at a centre without completing a traineeship. If you are doing a traineeship at a centre then the Award changes to the National Training Award hence your pay rate changes.
I know confusing right??
Ok let me know if you have any further questions, but my advice is don't sign anything as yet and ask them for proof of pay rate. Like where is the pay rate coming from - which award, which level etc.
Let me know what you decide and hopefully you read this by the time you make your decision.

Re: TRAINEESHIP HOURLY RATE- CERTIFICATE 3
Hi there Lorina,
I am 37 years old. I am changing my career to become a childcare educator as I have a deep passion of learning and teaching. I love to work with small children. I have recently being offered traineeship- diploma by a not-for-profit early learning centre. I have a Bachelor Degree of Commerce (Accounting) which I obtained from my home country. The early learning centre offers me $17 per hour, 5 hours of job everyday for 5 days per week. I am in Perth, WA. I am wondering if $17 the standard rate for someone in my situation?
Thank you very much.
Kind regards,
Angie

Re: TRAINEESHIP HOURLY RATE- CERTIFICATE 3
From what I understand, you will receive $738/ per week.
Once you get your contract, please let me know what they are offering you... so I can double check.
You can message me directly on the Aussie Childcare Network facebook page if you prefer.
