Paid training ?

Post by mumof41970 » Tue Jun 12, 2018 4:45 pm

Hi, My daughter is a few months into a Cert3 full-time traineeship. Her theory training is provided by a training provider who comes into her work occasionally to check up that she's on track, the centre has at least ( 3 ) other Cert 3 trainees at the moment and have been taking on trainee for a few years as far as I am aware. My question is, her training provider booked her in for a Saturday first aid course at their head office to enable her to complete that module. There was no mention of being paid and she assumed that it would be unpaid. As she had prior commitments she told them she could not attend, and after discussing with her centre director was booked in for another day, a weekday . She was told that it was fine to go on this day , but it would be considered an annual leave day. Should training like this be a paid work day ? I'm assuming all the trainees will take it as an annual leave day also, as they don't want to rock the boat or don't know any better. My daughters not keen to bring it up either. She also doesn't get any allowance for uniform washing either even though she has to wear the provided centre logo shirt.

Please advise
thanks

I'd presume it wouldn't be paid. Does she have to pay to attend the first aid? If not then that's what's being paid. My organization paid for the centres in my area to have a first aid course day in the past, but we weren't paid for that day (it was a Saturday) from what I remember, we just didn't have to pay to do the course. I have no idea if a traineeship makes things different. I know when I did my Cert III (it wasn't a traineeship) I had to organise & pay for the first aid myself.

The first aid course is part of her requirements for her Cert 3 qualification so it has to be completed as per the training organisations requests... from what I know it is not a paid day because it’s for the trainee to complete their course not the requirements of the centre asking it to be complete. If work asked her to complete it as per their request then it may be considered as pay however in her case it’s not since she needs to complete it for her qualification.

Hope this makes sense...
