After School Care Coordinator Traineeship

Hi There,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this to but oh well. Pretty simple question.

Can someone who has just started studying towards their Diploma and is completely new to childcare, be hired as the Coordinator of a School-Aged OSHC program (and alone at that). What are the risks associated and who is at fault if there is an incident at the service?

Hi Suzy,

Diploma-qualified educators are able to work as a coordinator at an OOSH Service however since this person has only begun studying they cannot be considered a Diploma until the following requirements are met:

hold an approved certificate III level qualification OR
have completed the approved certificate III units* OR
have completed 30% of the units in an approved ECT qualification.

If they don't meet the above requirements they cannot be considered counted towards a Diploma qualified educator.

If they're meeting those requirements, then the only downfall is that they are new to the industry and they haven't had any experience which will be a little difficult for them to run an OOSH. They would really need to learn everything on the job from making sure that all regulations are followed, the service is meeting nqs, mtop is implemented in programming and planning, deal with staffing, and dealing with parents and children. It's a lot to take on for a newbie.

If anything happens at the centre it does fall onto the co-ordinators head because they are the ones managing the service.
