Hello,
Was wondering if I could get some input. I have just taken over a centre that usually stays open during the Christmas period besides the public holidays of course.
From my experience of working most centres I worked for tended to close during that period for a week or more.
I’m just wanting to get some input on why they would close? Is it out of kindness and knowing staff need a break? I know centres still have to pay staff but can’t charge parents when they close during that period so why would they close and lose out on business?
Thanks in advance

Re: Christmas Closure Period why some open and some close during that period
From my experience, many centers choose to close during the Christmas period for a few reasons. One big factor is definitely out of consideration for staff, as it’s a time when people want to rest and spend quality time with family. This break can help prevent burnout and boost overall morale. Another reason is that demand often drops during this period, as many parents take time off and don’t require childcare. While it does mean a loss of income since they can’t charge parents, some centers find that the reduced operational costs and the benefits to staff wellbeing make it worth it. Balancing these factors can be tricky, so it’s always good to weigh the needs of your staff and community before deciding.
