Scenario: Mary - Only Child

Post by Harjjbanwait » Fri Oct 14, 2016 1:45 pm

Hi
I m stuck on this question
Pls help me
Read the information about Mary and in 150 words suggest the types of interactions from which Mary might benefit.

Mary has just turned five.

Observations (over time):

Mary refuses to share with other children. She often ends up playing alone.

Parent comments:

Mary is an only child and seems to find it hard to relate to other children. She does not play with other children on an interactive level.

My answer is: Children with some disorders, including autism spectrum disorder, might require encouragement and practice to learn how to play with others. If your child naturally likes to play alone, introduce social play incrementally, according to the Raising Children Network. Simple games, like patty-cake, can introduce basic social interaction. Play dates can help your child establish friendships with others, and you can model how to ask to join in a game.
I am not sure if I'm answering this right . Could u please guide me .

Since Mary is an only child this has a big impact on her social and emotional development. It has nothing to do with autism... At Mary has all her toys and attention to herself as she is the only child so when she has to share with other children it's difficult for her since she is used to having everything for herself. Yes, you need to introduce games and group interactions with her which will enable her to get use to playing with her peers and learn how to share...

We really need to think about the child's home environment and other factors before we consider that there must be something wrong with the child...
