Scenario: Jack - Foods That Encourage Tooth Decay

Post by TJ246 » Thu Sep 15, 2016 1:31 pm

Hey :)
Im really stuck on this scenario :( and any help would be great. In myself I have no confidence to submit my answers as i feel they're are all wrong

Jack is 18 months old and his mother Sasha has decided that he should not have his bottle at lunch time. Jack has one bottle in the morning and one at night. For lunch Sasha has provided a bottle filled with lime cordial, a can of spaghetti and some cracker biscuits. educators have noticed the first sign on tooth decay.

What are the national dietary guidelines which should be encouraged for Jack?
I have guideline
Guide line 2 Enjoy a wide variety of nutritious foods from these five food groups every day
Guideline 3 Limit intake of foods containing saturated fat, added salt, added sugars and alcohol.
Is this ok?
Im also stuck on the question: How could you talk to Sasha about Jack's diet and ensure you respect her wishes and values? < I have no response to this :(

Yes, you're on the right track with your response!

National Dietary Guidelines

In regards to talking to Sasha about Jack's diet you could probably give her information on the types of foods Jack could be eating, provide her with menu ideas, give her a list of foods that are recommended for Jack etc.

Thank you for responding :)

How does this sound
d) I would speak to Sasha in private when she has come to collect Jack from care. I would give positive feedback on how Jack really enjoys his cracker biscuits but he needs more variety of food when he comes to care. I would refer her to the centers food policies by using a pamphlet that has food suggestions that are appropriate for Jacks age group to bring to care. Also offering Sasha some menu ideas that comply with the National Dietary Guidelines, with foods that are appropriate to Jacks age and that also comply with the centers food policies.

thank you again i really appreciate help!

Yes! I think that's a very respectful way to speak to Sasha about Jack's nutrition!
