Scenario - Clara, James & Adele: Supervising Children

Post by sumanjyani » Wed Feb 11, 2015 9:30 pm

case study

The Educator ,Clara works in 3-4 old room at the bay Early learning center . There are 18 children in attendance at the service today and 3 Educators. Today Clara has set up a creative arts experience outdoors that requires her to supervise a group of up to 6 children closely . Whilst Clara is supervising this experience , one of the Educator,Adele ,is on her morning tea break leaving James to supervise the rest of the outdoor play area . During the creative arts experience , Clara runs out of glue and walks inside to prepare some more , leaving James alone to supervise all the children in the outdoor areas . Whilst she is preparing the glue Adele returns from her morning tea break and asks her who is supervising with James . Clara responds "oh he is alright , I have only been gone a minute ."

1 what factors should Clara have considered before leaving the outdoor areas?

2 what procedures Clara should have followed to ensure she maintained the required ratios ?

3 why it is important to always inform your colleagues when leaving the area you have been supervising ?

please help me i am stuck on these question .

thank you.

Yes, you're on the right track.

For 2) she should wait for Adele to come back from morning tea to get more supplies or ask Adele to bring them when she finishes her break.

Hello I am re doing this question fro the workbook 2
What factors should Clara have considered before leaving the outdoor play area?
I answer
The minimum educator to children ratio .

but the assesor say they are other factors..
could be this the answer?
having an efective comunication between educator not to leave only onse educator supervising.
have a cooperative team work and ask for help when she need it, as the other educator could birng the material she needed after the tea break,,
i annot think of anything else...

coae she say to check in section 4 of the student guide but that unit referes to safety and dont talkj about this scenario
Thnak you Very much!

If the educator is required to leave the play area for any reason, she/he should wait until there is enough staff according to the required ratio or inform your colleagues that she/he intend to leave. If there are limited educators available or the educator cannot leave the area, he/she should delegate tasks to someone else who is available e.g. ask another educator to prepare the glue so that you can continue to supervise.

It is important to inform the colleagues when we are leaving the area we have been supervising:

To ensure ratios are maintained.
To ensure there is adequate supervision in all areas.
So that Educators can adjust their supervision.
So that children are supervised and remain safe at all times.
