Post by melissabaybee » Mon Oct 10, 2011 6:32 pm

hi if someone could help id be grateful cheers :)

a new staff member is making the following statements over a period of time
"its a shame belinda cant talk properly" (belinda is aborginal and speaks a dialectic form of english)
"coreys a real boy isnt he?" ( is bery big and strong for his age)
"who would have thought we would have a little genuis in our midst" (she is extremely bright and can read as a second grader)
"isnt it a shame robert is stuck in a wheelchair" ( is has cerebral palsy and is extremely tiny)
"bills a bit of a sissy isnt he?" (loves dressing up and loves to dance)

how could each statement influence her interactions with the children concerned ?

Hey Mel,

Just think about how would you interact if you thought this way about a child in your care? Firstly I don’t think that you’d pay much attention to the child, dismiss everything the child tries to tell you and treat the child with less care than the others. Also, since it’s a new staff member making these comments she hasn’t had the decency to get to know each child and their families before making these judgments…

That’s what I think anyway…

Cheers :geek:,
