How should an Early Childhood Educator record observations on children?

The teacher said my answer was really good but that I am still missing vital information and I'm not sure what it is I am missing.

There not asking for ways to record observations for example narrative, antedotal, running record because I had that in my original answer and it was incorrect.

Any help would be appreciated


What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
Children should be observed during regular play sessions and daily routines, in different situations, at different times of the day/week and on a number of occasions to build up an accurate picture of their development. Where observations are used to look closely at a child’s behaviour the observations should be conducted over an extended period of time to gain an accurate picture of the child’s behaviour. The ‘when’ and ‘where’ will depend to a certain degree on the child’s age, disposition and individual routine. For example, if you want to investigate how a child communicates it would be appropriate to reflect on one to one interactions with an infant while the infant is sharing lap time with the carer or while having their nappy changed. For example, does the infant make eye contact? Does the infant respond to the carer’s voice? Does the infant attempt to make sounds? To investigate how a preschooler communicates the carer might choose to observe the child interacting with a group of children, for example during lunch time.

Hi L.A, my answer above is my second attempt and I did submit it. She is said it was really good but that I was still missing something. In my first answer I wrote ways in which you can record observations in children (narrative, running record. antedotal ) and that was incorrect. I feel like I am missing something obvious in my answer but can't think of what it is.

great information, however you are still missing some vital info in regards to how the observations should be carried out… revise and resubmit

The only thing I can think of that you haven't written about how educators record observations are the following:

Without judgement - Describe actions rather than judge action. For e.g "she smiled and clapped her hands" rather than "she was very excited".

Be objective - recod what's exactly being observed... Avoid making assumptions

Set realistic expectations/goals. Using EYLF l/o's or developmental milestones as objectives.

Look, listen, record and think.

Should be consistent.
