Ways to communicate with 8-10 yr olds in a non gender specific and non-stereotypical language. What common words would you use when your doing an activity with a group of kids and talking to them that are not gender specific??

Call them children or by their names instead of words like boys and girls.
Refer to things in a way that is not gender specific so if taking about police not saying policeman, policewoman. Not making comments like dresses are for girls etc if doing dramatic play involving dress ups.

Ensure that you don't call all the boys 'mate' and all the girls 'honeybun'. You can still use fun language like 'superstar' etc that is not gender specific
