CHILDREN AND ANGER NEED HELP ASAP PLEASE!

Post by helana4 » Sun May 27, 2012 7:57 pm

Heres the scenario:

6 month old is playing with a toy, when the carer says its lunch time and puts the toy on the shelf and puts her in the high chair. The child screams, arches her back and throws her arms around and the carer continues to try and put the child in the high chair. The carer then tells the baby, "theres nothing wrong with you. there arent even any tears."

whats wrong with the baby? why is she displaying this behaviour.

I have written- she is upset and is displaying this behaviour because she doesnt want to be put in the high chair.

could the carer do anything different? what do you suggest?

i am a bit stuck on this.

she could pick up the baby and talk to her and tell her that it's lunch time now and that I'm going to put you in the high chair, so you can have something to eat??

what if this was a toddler- would you do anything different?

i have no idea about this one.

I would approach the child in the same way, by talking to the child??

Really stuck!

Please help!
Thanks.

6 month old----The educator should sit on the floor with the child
"It is nearly lunchtime, we are going to have something to eat." Pick up the child with the toy, put her in the high chair,
"I have a bowl of vegetables to give you!" As the educator is talking to the child and distracting her the toy can be gently removed from sight and the food presented.
When the educator speaks with care and respect, children will be more conducive to responding in a more acceptable manner
Toddler----The educator attracts the child's attention by sitting with her.
"It is nearly lunchtime, we are going to start putting the toys away now. Can you help me to put these toys in this box?"
While the educator picks up the toys, she encourages the toddler to help and praises her when she follows the lead.
I hope this helps you!
Cheers, Jenma

I would also put it into the routine that there is something that makes the children realise its nearly time to pack away so they have time to finish what they are doing (a bit harder for a 6 month old but always a good idea anyway!) Such as playing a certain song during pack away as the indicator.... telling them before hand that we are going to pack up in 5 minutes so they can finish what they are doing. And as suggested above. Letting the baby have the toy so they are not already grumpy before going in to the chair and then districating them.
