Assessment 1 Part C

Read the following two scenarios and answer the dot points giving detailed information regarding what you would say and do in each situation (Max 300 words per scenario).

Scenario 1

Your service provides food for the toddler group. Emma is in the toddler group and refuses to eat the tuna casserole that has been served to her for lunch as she is not accustomed to it. She also refuses to drink from the cup offered to her. By the end of the day, Emma has not eaten or had anything to drink. You want Emma to eat the food provided so all the children eat the same food together. You feel the service has gone to a lot of expense to introduce a balanced menu for the children. Her mother wants to send packed lunch of yoghurt, cheese and fruit along with a drink each day for Emma.

• Show how you negotiate and/or change your care practices so that an agreement is reached about the specific requests of the family.

He has considered coming in the afternoons, but doesn’t know what he’d do at OSHC. He feels he is a bad parent because he works shift work, is asleep when his son goes off to school and is at work when his son gets home from OSHC.

Hi Krissy
I just have a couple of suggestions to offer.
For the question List the range of family types you could expect to encounter in a children’s service workplace - I think this probably doesn't relate to race, more likely things like single parents, foster parents, two working parents, stay at home mum-working dad etc...
Describe how you would communicate information about Nisrine and her family to other staff to help Nisrine’s transition in to care. possibly add communication book, phone calls.
Describe at least three examples of specific care practices that a service could be asked to accommodate for a family. - maybe add special needs (ie a child with special needs may require specific care healthwise/learning wise)
What sort of opportunities would you create/provide for family members to participate in the children’s experiences?
Have a parent help roster for those that might like to come in. Find out if family members have any special skills they would like to share with the children (come in and cook a cultural dish.do some woodworking/teach the chn some music etc..

Your answers all look good. Hope the above helps. I might have a chance later to have another look at the questions.\
