CHCPR303D - Running record - Help needed please

Post by amandal65 » Sat Jun 23, 2012 1:03 pm

Hi
I have this last question to complete and I have hit a complete brain freeze! I would be really grateful for any help, suggestions etc to get me back on track.

Referring to the ‘Example of a Running Record’, summarise what it tells you about the child.

EXAMPLE Running Record
P Physical Development
L Language Development
S/E Social & Emotional Development
C Cognitive Development
P Physical Development

Child’s Name: Manni Age: 3 Date: 2nd Dec 2008
Observer: Setting: Time: 8:37am
Observation No: 4 Other Children:
Observation
Manni’s mother opens the door. Manni walks through the door, turns right and standing saying to her mum ‘come on mum’. She walks behind her mum down the ramp to the sign in book. Manni’s right foot first steps up onto the step and holds the rail with both hands then let’s go with the left hand and turns around. Mum says ‘you go play, I’ll see you tonight’, Manni say’s ‘OK’. Manni looks up to her mum, standing on tip toes, holds arms up to mum looking at her. Educator squats to Manni. Manni pulls mums long coat over her face. Educator asks Manni ‘do you want a cuddle?’ Another child cries, Manni looks, her left fingers are fiddling and rubs her thumb against her other fingers. Manni lifts her left hand to her face and brush’s some hair from her eyes. Manni moves away from her mum and with her left foot and lifts her body weight onto the step again then lowers herself down with her arm. Mum squats to Manni and say’s ‘Mummy will pick you up later.’ Manni say’s ‘Mmmm’, puts her head down. Mum hands Manni a small rectangle clear container with bread inside. Mum says ‘bye Manni, have a good day,’ the carer is sitting near Manni. Carer says ‘come and sit, show me what you have.’ Manni sits back against the wall with carer, puts the container on her right leg with her right hand, puts her feet out straight, clicks tops of feet together twice, takes a piece of bread out of container with her right hand and holds it with all five fingers at the edge of the bread, takes a small bite, chews, swallows, swaps food to left hand, takes a bite, chews, swallows, swaps the bread to her right hand again. Manni fiddles with the container lid with her left hand, pushes it into her leg with two fingers. Clicks feet together 7 times, takes a bite, chews, two other children walk towards Manni, she holds the plastic lid with her left hand up to her eyes and looks through it at the children, lowers the lid when they walk by.

Hi Amanda

Break down the question into smaller pieces and ask yourself the following:-
I believe this would be the decoding. (I may be wrong)
What aspect of Physical Development do I see in this running record for this child?
Read through the running record and see what PD you can find.
Write it down in note form.

What aspect of Language Development do I see in this running record for this child?
Read through the running record and see what LD you can find.

Write it down in note form. (This would be your summary)
etc etc
Then once you have followed this write it all down as a paragraph or 2.

Others may know better than I.
Hope this helps
