Your Assignment Module Number and Heading: CHCIC301E - Interact effectively with children
Your Assignment Type: Case Scenario
Currently Working in Childcare? No
Your knowledge: Basic Knowledge
Your Question?
Read each scenario. Identify a language goal for the child and provide and educator response:
1. Owen (2.9yrs) is painting at the easel and the green paint is empty. He looks at the educator and says "More"
2. Max (4.6) is looking upset, his arms are folded and his head is bowed
3. Jayden (8yrs) rushes up to the educator. "Owen's being an idiot"
4.Poppy (2yrs) points to a picture of a cow in the book and says "moo"
What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
OWEN 2.9 years
Specific Goal: Have Owen learn that he could ask by saying more than just “more” Have him respond to my questions to practice his language. Top up the green paint!
Educator response: Is the green paint empty Owen? Would you like some more? You could say “more green paint please Miss Bec”
MAX 4.6 years
Specific goal: Find out exactly what is wrong with Max by asking questions and taking note of his body language. Give him ideas as to how he can express himself.
Educator Response: You don’t look very happy Max? Can you tell me what’s wrong and then perhaps I can help you? You could say “I’m sad” or “I’m angry”
JAYDEN 8 Years
Specific goal: Help Jayden by teaching him another way to let me know someone is not playing nicely instead of labelling them “an idiot”
Educator Response: Ok.. Let’s not call him an idiot though as it would hurt his feelings if he heard that? What is he doing? You might want to say that he’s not playing very nicely? Is that it?
POPPY 2 years
Specific goal: Expand on what she already knows about the picture in the book and get her to use more words
Educator Response: That’s right Poppy. That animal goes Moo. Do you know what that animal is? What colour is he? Say colours if she doesn’t know them and she’ll most probably repeat them.

Re: Communicate positively wth children
Welcome to Aussie Childcare Network!
Your responses are well thought out and do relate to language and how an educator can extend on what the child already knows.
Yes, you're on the right track and I don't think you need to change anything.
BTW - You posted your question correctly!
