CHCECE003- Scenario: Ahmed - Moving Into The Preschool Room

Post by Ebony » Mon May 18, 2015 7:58 pm

Ahmed is a three-year-old boy who has attended the education and care service where you work since he was 18 months old. He recently moved into the pre-school room on his birthday. The last two times his mother has dropped him off at the service in the mornings he has become inconsolable; grabbing at his mother, sobbing and pleading with her to not leave him.

2.Describe three strategies that should have been put in place prior to Ahmed’s transition to the pre-school room to reduce his anxiety.

I have thought of the following but unsure if I'm on the right track or not???
-Asked Ahmed’s mother to come in for a few hours with her son to reduce his anxiety about being around new people.
-Let Ahmed start pre-school a few hours at a time before going into full days so that he will learn to be apart from his mother.
-talk to Ahmed about all the fun activities we do so he will get to know that pre-school is a fun place and that we will always look after him.

Yes, you're on the right track with your response!

Instead of putting Ahmed into the preschool room straight away it should be done gradually. First he should have a few "plays" during the day with the preschoolers, then sit with them for morning tea etc. Once Ahmed is comfortable he can then be transitioned across. The preschool teacher should also have some one on one time with Ahmed to get to know him as well as his family before transitioning across...

Hope this helps,
