Hello Cherubean!

Well done for having a go - This can be a tricky one but something that I am sure happens a lot.

a) If the coworker doesn't care, then it needs to be reported to the person in charge (Be that the 2IC, Room Leader, Coordinator or Director) so that the staff member can be dealt with. It would need to be documented and reported to the parent as well.

b) I am not sure of any exact legal issues relating to the incident BUT I am almost 100% sure that this would be a breach of the centres policies and procedures and a breach of these can mean the centre could face legal problems.

c) Sorry - Unsure. Hopefully someone else can help out!

e) The confidentiality would relate to the staff member. It would be up to the person in charge to make the decision, in the event of legal complaints, to release the name of the staff member. So when telling the parent, it would simply be explained as "Sorry to tell you but your child was given milk today by a staff member who was unaware of the request". There would be no name included.

f) The non-judgmental approach would also apply to the staff member but also the parent. As you stated you would be non-judgmental by respecting her wishes but also not call the staff member a total moron and start yelling at them because of their opinion.

Hope this can help get you on track!
