Your Question?
1. Standard 5.1 Element 5.1.1:
Interactions with each child are warm and responsive and build trusting relationships.
Molly (6 Months)
Molly’s parents informed the educator, Sue, that when she is tired she rubs her eyes and cries. When she is settling for a sleep, Molly likes to hold the satin edge of a baby blanket. After lunch time Sue notices Molly is restless and rubbing her eyes. She picks Molly up and says, ‘Are you sleepy Molly?’ Molly snuggles into Sue’s shoulder. As Sue changes Molly’s nappy, she talks softly to her. Sue sits on the lounge with Molly in her lap and feeds Molly her bottle. Molly ‘holds’ the bottle but Sue continues to give her attention and sings Molly’s favourite song. When Molly has finished her bottle she is giving signs of being very drowsy so Sue follows Molly’s familiar rest time routine and stays with Molly until she is asleep. All the sleeping babies are continually monitored.
How has this principle been demonstrated?
What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
Molly’s parents shared the informations about their child with the educator, so that Sue acknowledge and respond immediately by seeing Molly’s body movement and her facial expressions that she is feeling sleepy. With Warm and responsive care, Sue took her and communicate using warm words. Here it helps her to reduce the stress. A sense of trust from the sensitive attunement of a nurturing caregiver-Molly dyad, which provide a secured attachment and it helps her to try new things and to develop a sense of confidence, which encourages learning.
Interactions with children make secure attachments and it helps children feel safe, and this feeling of safety is a strong base from which children can explore the world and learn from each new experience. A warm, responsive emotional climate between the educator and Molly is demonstrated by close physical proximity, matched affect, calm voices and respectful language. Constant and consistency of care is important in promoting responsive relationships with children, and in supporting children to develop trusting relationships with educator. Here those care demonstrated through Sue changes Molly’s nappy, offers milk and helps her to sleep by singing Molly’s favourite song and stayed until she is asleep. Also all the sleeping babies are continuously monitored. It shows the educators warm, responsive care and they “creating a sense of belonging” for all children.
