Post by marcus21 » Fri Jun 03, 2011 8:44 am

Hi

Could I please have help on the following question from Assessment 3 - Providing a Safe environment.

In your own words, explain a policy or procedure relating to:

Hazards and risk reduction strategies
The provision of a safe environment.

Also could some please help me with what the staff to child ratio is for excursions for 2-3 yr old and 4-5 year?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi JoJo

Here is some info you can use to help with your assignment:

Hazards and risk reduction strategies

-Provide a duty of care that protects persons from harm, injury, illness or abuse;
-Develop and administer OHS risk management systems;
-Regularly reviewing OHS procedures and practices;
-Consult with all stakeholders when reviewing OHS policies;
-Maintain and store OHS documentation and records.
-Provide staff with OHS professional development and training;
-Ensure that all OHS policies are transparent and accessible;
-Nominate a Health and Safety Representative (HSR).

The provision of a safe environment

Child Care Providers are responsible for the supervision of the children in their care. The service defines ‘supervision’ as the process of directing controlling, planning, listening, watching and guiding children to ensure their safety in such a way as to enable them to maintain independence to build on achievable challenges that support their learning and development.

When children are in care Child Care Providers need to consider the risks in the environment, the age and stage of development of the children in care, and the size of the group, and the behaviours and characteristics of the individual children as part of their role as Supervisors.

To ensure that their duty of care is maintained Child Care Providers must keep children within sight or sound at all times, never leave the children unattended and only release children to an authorised person.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend,

Cheers :geek:,
