CHCCHILD401A - Identify and respond to children and young people at risk
CHCCHILD401A - hello,,i would like help to answer this question. Yesterday and educator say to Jennifer " You're a naughty and mean girl now and I'm not going to help you or play with you until you start being nice again. the question is How would you respond to what you overheard your fellow Educator say to Jennifer? and another question i need help. What relevant agencies would you work with to ensure maximum effectiveness of your report? Would really appreciate if anyone could help me to answer this 2 questions.

CHCIC301E -Interact effectively with children
Hello i have this Case Study 2 ..Long Day Care
The Pier Child Care Centre is located in an inner suburb in major city. The community it serves is very diverse in terms of family types, ethnic background and employment. The staff plan program which is based on the interests, strengths and needs of the children. The indoor area is large and although the outdoor area is fairly small, there is a small park and playground next door. The centre is licensed for 10 children under 2 years and 15 children over 2 years. the program is divided along those lines. the group we will focus on is over 2's whose range from just over 2 years up to 5 years and who are cared for by yourself and a range of educators, including Jelena, Katrina, Bao and Sandra( the qualified team leader). The group is made up of the following children.
Coranzon age 2 and half years who recently immigrated from brazil with her parents
Mitchell aged 3 who is strugling to behave as workers expect him to
Belinda aged 3 who is Aboriginal and speaks a dialetic form of English
Corey aged 4, who loves nothing more than to dress up and put on plays and to dance to all kind of music
Chaminda aged 4 and half years who dresses in traditional Indian dress
Mel aged 4 and half years who lives with her grandmother they are strugling financially
Kathy aged 4 and half years who is extremely bright and can read as well as a second grader and who is fascinated with the computer
Q1..In this particular group of children, what factors will influence the language style, both verbal and non verbal, you will use when interacting with the children?
Q2..Outline strategies to ensure that you are using appropriate, frequent and respectful verbal and non-verbal forms of communication with all the children.
how could you identify and use key words of meaning for each child.
Q3..Looking at the age group of children, how could you:
a identify and explain examples of positive behaviour to children
b. communicate positive options for children
c. encourage a child's cooperation
d. highlight positive behaviour
Q4...As an educator in this room, you become a bit concerned when you hear the following comments from the children:
a. Belinda to Chaminda..You got a funny dress on
b. Monique to Corazon..You talk funny
c. Spencer to Catriona,,You're silly being scared of going to school
Explain how you could talk positively about the differences within this group of children and promote the differences as resources rather than as problems.

- Corazon recently migrated from Brazil
- Belinda, Aboriginal, dialectic form of English
- Chaminda, potential Indian culture
• Who you are speaking to
- Kathy, extremely bright, high academic ability (developmental level)
- Catriona, very quiet and withdrawn
• Do not use stereotypical or gender specific language, use inclusive language.
- Bill like to dress up and dance to all kind of music
- Mel lives with mother and grandmother
- Robert has cerebral palsy
- Monique plays rough and tumble games
2. How could staff ensure that they are using appropriate and respectful verbal and non-verbal forms of communication with all the children?
• Many children come from multi cultural backgrounds. Non-verbal communication is regularly the easiest way to get you message across. Strategies you can use to support this includes:
- Researching different ways of using non-verbal communication
- Have all staff member using the same methods (i.e. hand gestures) of non-verbal communication so those children can begin to understand what you are implying
- Ask the parents of the children and find out simple words and phrases in their home language that you can use to communicate with the child.
- Display visual images around the room, at different areas (for e.g., in the bathroom, a picture above the toilet of a child flushing the toilet, a picture of a child near the sink washing their hands etc) so the child can visually understand what they need to do.
3. Outline how Jelena explain to Sandra all of the reasons why her comments are not appropriate and:
- How they could impact negatively in the self-esteem of the children concerned.
- How they could influence her interactions with the children concerned.
Jelena could explain to Sandra that we all need to be conscious of our own language and try to be as inclusive as possible at all times. If Sandra uses language that is bias, stereotypes children or excludes them it will be damaging to their self-esteem. Inclusive language helps children feel that they belong to the group, recognizes and affirms that the children are first and for most and any distinguishing attributes are secondary to their status. By ensuring she monitors her language it will help gain the trust of the children.
4. Explain how you could talk positively about the differences within this group if children and promote the differences as resources rather than as problems.
– The role of a caregiver is to ensure that the development of children is not restricted because of their individual differences, it is important to respond positively to children who show an interest in difference. Modeling acceptance and being at ease in a situation will give the children a clear message about difference and similarities and how both should be valued. Discussing differences and similarities is important, paraphrase the child’s response and provide a role model of more respectful language. You could use persona dolls to discuss differences and similarities; you could also use drama, or talk to the children about their likes and dislike.
