I dont have a textbook yet , i'm not sure about my answer of this question , can anyone help me? thank you
The Question: she decides to record her concerns after this disclosure. Using the textbook"the early childhood educator for certificateiii, section work within own level of responsibility in chapter 7" - what are the four(4) indicators that the educator should consider when recording her observations?
The scenario in brief:
Larry (4yrs) has just started attending Skittles Family Day-care 5 days a week and wears the same clothes often for 4 or 5 days in a row. His clothes show evidence of the painting activities done the day before and are quite smelly. The educator attempts to change him but finds no spare clothes in his bag.
He is always the first to sit at the table waiting for his lunch and always says he is hungry. He has little food supplied daily in his lunch box despite asking his parents for extra food to satisfy the minimum daily requirements for nutrition and also to satisfy his hunger. On many occasions when his mum rushes in to drop him off in the morning, she says that there was no time for breakfast but that he can wait for morning tea which is not far away. The educator then supplies him with some toast anyways.
The educator is sitting at morning tea with the children and starts talking about what the children do when they go home. Some of the children say they sit and watch TV and then have dinner. Others say they have to have a shower or bath and put their pyjamas on while mummy cooks their dinner. It is at this point that Larry says he never has to have baths, he just plays in his room and sometimes gets to choose biscuits for dinner time. The educator decides to not further question Larry at the morning tea table but later talks to Larry when he is at the painting table by himself and asks what sorts of things he has for dinner. Larry again repeats what he said earlier and further explains that he gets to have spaghetti sometimes which is his favourite but mostly has sandwiches and sometimes gets left over take away if mummy doesn’t eat it all. At all times the educator responded with nods and was aware of ensuring positive body language.
When the educator checks Larry’s record she finds that he lives in unit 5/230 Brisbane Street, Neverland. She is also reminded that Larry’s mother is a single parent and is not currently employed and is behind on payments for care by 4 weeks. His file has other information such as Larry has a pet fish called Robert and has one cousin that lives nearby but no siblings. She has also observed that Larry loves painting and other craft activities but has difficulty identifying and remembering his colours. -
What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
1. (Possible indicators of physical abuse) unexplained broken wrist ,unexplained multiple sizes bruises on Larry's upper right thigh and a large bruise on the left side of his ribs.
2. (Possible indicators of physical abuse) marked delay between injury and obtaining medical assistance.
3. (Possible indicators of neglect/emotional or psychological abuse )signs of malnutrition, begging food / eating hungrily
4. (Possible indicators of neglect)poor hygiene, wearing same dirty clothes for 4 or 5 days in a row and are smelly.

As far as I can read from you response it seems to me like you're on the right track! The indicators that you put for each type of abuse is correct as they are those mentioned within the scenario...

Just adding - In regards to the question "your own level of responsibilities" for QLD Child Protection Laws if you suspect a child is being abused then you will need to report it since you are a mandatory reporter. The following information may help as well:

I also have ask my Tafe online teacher about this question, and her reply is " you need to think about what is your responsibility when writing an observation,Using the textbook"the early childhood educator for certificateiii, section work within own level of responsibility in chapter 7"
Because I dont have a textbook yet, I have to guess what my responsibility is.... so following is my answer :
- protect the privacy of the child and his family (Talk to the child privately and keep the observation file in confidential area...etc)
- Talk to the parent about the injury , also mention about the child's hunger and no spare clean cloth in his bag. Write down what is the parent's reaction and reply.
- keep using positivy language and body language when talking to the child.

I only write points not 4 because i can't think of anything else.......and the Tafe teacher's reply is " Please resubmit the following:question 2A Although it is important to talk to the parent regarding the situation, the question is asking you what are the 4 things you need to remember to do when writing an observation about the matter. You are on the right track when you talk about the need to keep the information confidential.If you look at page 158 of your textbook it should help you."

It seems like they want the answer as it states in the text book... Maybe go to your local library and see if they have it or you may have to buy a copy...

hi Lorina, I found the following infomation from the textbook, do you think they are the right information for this question?
- Accurately record relevant specific and general circumstances surrounding risk of harm in accordance with state legislation, services policies and procedures and ethics
- Promptly record and report risk-of-harm indicators, including the circumstances surrounding the risk of harm according to services policies and procedures
- Ensure writing in reports is non-judgemental
- work collaboratively with relevant agencies to ensure maximum effectiveness of report
