Your Assignment Module Number and Heading: CHCCS400C WORK WITHIN A RELEVANT LEGAL AND ETHICAL FRAMEWORK
Your Assignment Type: Case Scenario
Currently Working in Childcare? No
Your knowledge: Beginner
Your Question?
Case study 4
A father makes a complaint to you that his 4 ½ year old, Jacob, is not learning enough at the service. He is frustrated that the educators let him get dirty during the day when they could be ensuring he is ready for school. What would you do and why?
Case study 6
You are friends with a co-worker on a social networking site. Over the past few weeks you have noticed posts on her page about other staff where you work. These posts are derogatory and inappropriate. What would you do and why?
Case study 8
A 3 ½ year old boy, Ghani, who attends the service where you work refuses to feed himself. He will not eat finger food, and you believe that he does not know to hold a spoon or fork. You approach his mother to discuss your concern who simply says ‘I feed him’. What would you do and why?
Case study 9
A father tells you that his newly enrolled 2 year old daughter, Alyssa, is a ‘biter’ and gives you permission to smack her if she bites a child. What would you do and why?
What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
Case Study 4
I would take the father somewhere to have a private conversation where we could discuss his concerns for Jacob. I would listen to what he has to say and be understanding of his frustrations. I would then discuss with him the importance of play and that even when children are playing they are not just "playing" but they are learning, developing skills and showing an interest. I can ensure him that Jacob is learning all the time and that we are getting him ready for the start of school. As for his clothes I can perhaps suggest to him that Jacob could have a set of old clothes for when he is attending the service. If Jacobs father is still not happy I would ask the Director of Services to talk to him in regards to solving the issue with him and perhaps putting in place some extra learning tasks for his son. It is my duty to the child and family to provide the best care and education possible.
Case Study 6
I would speak to my co worker regarding the issue and remind her of her ethical responsibilities to her work and colleagues, by using the code of ethics from her workplace she can remember to be mindful and respectful to her colleagues. If she refused to stop saying things on the social networking site I would have to ask my supervisor (director of Services) to step in and talk to her. It is my responsibility to the services to uphold the code of ethics and report any issues which can affect this.
Case Study 8
I would have a private talk with the mum and would be understanding of her cultural background and her right to feed her child, however I would try to help her understand that while he is at the service it would be extremely helpful for him to be able to feed himself as not to take away from the care of the other children at the service during lunch time. I would offer her some advise/help/suggestions on helping him to learn to feed himself and give her some suggestions on preparing healthy finger foods to be consumed at the service. I would work together with her to create an outcome we were both happy with. It is my legal an ethical responsibility to create a welcoming, safe and non discriminating environment for both child and family and by working with them I can achieve that.
Case Study 9
I would thank him for bringing it to our attention that she is a biter, I would advise the father that we would not be smacking his child with or without his consent. I would reassure him we would be putting in helpful strategies and procedures to help and manage this situation at the service and if he wanted I could provide him with some suggestions to help him at home. My responsibilities as a childcare educator are to give the child and families the best care possible, so I would work together with the family in resolving the issue at hand (the child biter).

Re: Case Studies
All the case studies are very well answered and really well written! Awesome Job! Everything you have mentioned in each case study I would do the same if I was in situation and I don't think anything else needs to be added to your response.
The only thing I would probably mention in case study 1 is that you could show the father the program and explain the experiences on it and how you program and plan the days events as well as his child's observations etc.
Very good job!
