Assessment- Cultural Safety

Post by Subh » Tue Oct 31, 2017 4:31 pm

Hi, I am doing Cultural cluster unit, Assessment 2- Cultural safety. The question is as follows:
c) How does this issue impact on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people today?
1.Invasion/Colonisation
2. Stolen Generation
3.White Australia Policy

I have managed to find answer for 1 and 2, but couldn't find for 3 that is White Australia policy's impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander today.. My answer is

"Imediately following Federation in 1901, policies were designed to keep Australia white and British. Non-racial language was used to minimise international condemnation, but the xenophobic concern was plainly evident. Australia’s first prime minister, Edmund Barton, explicitly stated his belief in white superiority:

There is no racial equality. There is that basic inequality. These races are, in comparison with white races – I think no-one wants convincing of this fact – unequal and inferior.

The White Australia policy was in place for seven decades after 1901 and had a profound impact on the newly federated Commonwealth."

Not sure if this is correct.. I am struck up on this, pls can someone help me on this question. Thank you.
