Educator Wage Increase Now In Effect

The Fair Work Commission has officially implemented wage increases for early childhood educators as part of its gender-based undervaluation review. The updated pay rates and classification structure are now in effect from 1 March 2026.

Educators, you can now verify your classification level and determine your new minimum wage in the following:

Understanding Your New Classification Level in the Children’s Services Award From 2026

What’s Changed

  • New Classification System: The Children’s Services Award now streamlines roles into eight clear levels, directly linking qualifications, experience, and responsibilities to pay rates.
  • Recognition of Skills: Minimum wages now better reflect the professional skills and leadership educators bring to their roles.
  • Protection for Long-Serving Staff: Employees on higher historical rates will retain them if they exceed the new minimums.
  • Inclusive Coverage: Cooks working toward or holding early childhood qualifications are now recognised under the new classification system.

Why It Matters

This reform is designed to:

  • Address long-standing gender-based undervaluation in the sector.
  • Provide educators with clearer career progression pathways.
  • Ensure wages genuinely reflect the qualifications and responsibilities of the role.

This landmark decision recognises the professional expertise of educators and ensures fairer, more transparent career pathways across the sector.
