CHCCN303A - Risk Situations & Factors While Handling Children

Post by patchez01 » Sat Mar 30, 2013 9:38 pm

Your Assignment Module Number and Heading: CHCCN303A
Your Assignment Type: Standard Question
Currently Working in Childcare? Yes
Your knowledge: Beginner

Your Question?
Hi I have two questions, and they seem so simple to answer yet I cannot really get my head around them, any ideas or areas that I can be pointed to for information I would be very grateful for.

Q 1. Name three risk situations you may need to be aware of while handling children?

Q 2. What two factors may influence the type of risk to be aware of?

I have no answer for this question at this stage.

Thanks heaps, Lauren.

What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
Answer to Question 1:- My Answer :- When lifting or transferring a child with a disability, it is essential that there should be communication before the procedure to ensure the dignity of the child and the safety of both the child and the staff member. The mode of transfer must be discussed and the child involved in the planning and implementation of the procedure.

It is essential to wash hands after handling a child that may or has an illness so that cross contamination does not occur.

In the Four Year Old Kindergarten Session that I work at, we are not allowed to lift the children to avoid back injuries.

I have no answer to question 2, I dont know where to start with an answer.

Some risk situations you may need to be aware of when handling children include:

- Reducing the risk of strains and sprains (especially for your back).

- Infection Control (reducing the spread of germs).

- Lice Infestations (contacting head lice).

- Protection against blood borne pathogens such as Hepatitis or HIV.

- Sun safety

Here is some more information on the above risk situations: http://www.statefundca.com/safety/safet ... icleID=329

Hope this helps,
