chccn301c - health and safety requirements of beds in childcare

Post by Janine Garcia » Thu Dec 27, 2012 12:19 pm

Your Assignment Module Number and Heading: chccn301c
Your Assignment Type: Standard Question
Currently Working in Childcare? Yes
Your knowledge: Professional

Your Question?
"Does the beds conform to health and safety requirements in the centre where I have observed.

What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
I have answered:

They are in good shape
Staff wash them down with warm water and detergent after their use
They are storage away from the children's play area
Children use their own sheets and they are washed at the end of each day.

Description and Message:
Hello.. I am currently in Australia from Canada and doing some upgrading on legislation in childcare. I have been reading National standards guide element 2.1.2 and NSW Regulations section 81 but was wondering if there was another place that would give specific information:

Eg. I am looking to see what the Australian Standard is for the thickness of matts in childcare.

I am ok with answering the question. (hoping that I am on the right track) I am just wanted to know some specifics. All that I have read is that they must ensure they meet "standards" I have googled and searched but not sure where to find specific standards.

Thank you for your time and help

All the best Janine
