CHCPR303D - checklist observation

Post by gummybear » Tue Sep 27, 2011 10:30 am

Hi
i need to design a checlist for an observation for age group of 3 - 4 year olds. I am just a little overwhelmed on where to start. I need to include language development, social development, physical development, emotional development, creative development and cognitive. It sounds really big, i have look around in the resources and I can't seem to find anything to start with, expecially at this age group.
the ideas that i have started with are:
Social
does child interact with other children
does child share
language:
put a sentence together
Physical
Can peddle on the bike
throw a ball
catch a ball
emotional
starting to understand emotions, eg walking away when upset
Creative:
making and molding playdough
painting and brush stroking
Cognitive:
can solve age appropriate puzzles
I'm just a little confused and I think i just need a bit of guidness if i am on the right track. Please any feedback is really appreciated. thanks :)

Hi Bec,

Basically a checklist is divided up into each of the developmental domains and has milestones that child will achieve during each specific age. When using a checklist it's pretty simple, all you do is observe each child and tick off the milestones that the child has achieved for their age. The checklist is not as commonly used since the EYLF has recently been implemented...there are often debates if using a checklist is an appropriate way of observing children... Anyways I've attached a checklist one below...

Hi Kazalex,

Is this for the same assignment question? Are you looking for a developmental checklist for school age children or a observation template (such as running record, anecdotal, time sample etc).

Hi, i'm new to Aussie Childcare Network, not sure how to use it. But i am also after a checklist for OSHC, more so on development or behaviour. Do you have any useful websites? I cant get one anywhere?
Cheers
